It's A Wrap! 01/24/2012
The premiere issue is here, you're here, now how about leaving a little note for the Cap'n? Something you read on these virtual pages that especially tickled your fancy; a little bit of bragging on your own recent successes; a word of congrats for the TEAM PYP winners on this page; or how about "that" word - you know, the contest thing? No, not the "3-articles-word" but the other word, remember? Don't you go posting that "3-articles-word" you think you found. That doesn't go here. You have to stuff a note in a bottle for that, and address it to me at beyondaries@portyonderpress.com. Get it wrong and I'll be feedin' ya to the sharks, matey! But hey, I'm glad you've joined us, ya bilge rat, and I want to make it perfectly clear that I'd love to see yer face around here again, SOON. We'll lift a mug together and curse the gathering storms! ~Chila, Cap'n of this sea-worthy tub, and not ashamed a lick ... CommentsHeidi Kortman 01/24/2012 17:04
This is no tub, Cap'n. Heidi Kortman 01/24/2012 23:19
This is a ship of the line, and the NYT book lists will someday fail to repel the boarders sent from her decks. Chila 01/25/2012 07:59
Great sentiment, Heidi, and I think that's what trying to be our best entails. It's not shooting for something at ground level, but shooting for the highest point, the stars, in our efforts. And that's certainly my goal - one of the many stars I see while drifting along in this vessel on an ocean of glass ... reaching that star, then seeking out another in the next galaxy, and another, and ... Chila 01/25/2012 08:00
Thanks! Glad you dropped by, Kessie. 01/24/2012 20:10
'Tis a brilliant site for your sea-worthy crew, Cap'n! And a big "Yo-ho-ho" for having me swab the deck instead of walkin' the plank! Chila 01/25/2012 08:01
Thanks, Teric - great column you have there, matey. Now, back to swabbin' or you'll be peelin' ... ;) 01/24/2012 20:25
The Lauraceae or laurel family, which are aromatic, evergreen trees or shrubs brought me here, but the third one eludes me. Chila 01/25/2012 08:02
Yes, I think a review of the botany on this ship is in order .... Thanks, Dan! Sam Gill 01/24/2012 20:49
I posted a 'critique' of a newly released book on Amazon today by a fellow author in the same genre that I read. It was honest, not just driving up the stars or ratings unnecessarily. I think it is important that all authors pitch to write more reviews of the books they are reading so the writer and readers (customers) get feedback from all perspectives. :) It would be great to see an article on how to encourage not just other authors, but our readers to leave more reviews on your blog in the future. Chila 01/25/2012 08:04
Hmm, very good idea, Sam. I like that. A lot. And yes, I caught "the word" up there. Gotcha entered ... 01/25/2012 04:43
Tipping my hat to you, cap'n, for a timber-shivering first edition! Thanks for having me aboard! Chila 01/25/2012 08:06
You bet, Roz! The pleasure was all ours. After all, how often is it that we can sail our scurvy vessel around the shores of Great Britain fer ta pick up such a fine lassie as yerself? Not often, I swear. Not often! Heidi 01/25/2012 16:07
After finishing a 'critique' for a crit partner, I decided to check out this site. Very nice. :) Chila 01/25/2012 16:45
Thanks, Heidi. If you're not the Heidi above, please be sure to leave us some way to contact you should your name be chosen. I've been working my way through your articles. I'd like to enter the "critique" contest. :-) 01/25/2012 20:01
Really, "Mary Sue" is just code for a two-dimensional, unrealistically perfect character, and that's a no-no in every genre. As long as your character isn't guilty of those sins, she's probably not a Mary Sue and therefore not problematic. 01/26/2012 12:36
Well 'Mate, I love your sea-farin' page and look forward to many future sails together! :) Chila 01/26/2012 14:47
I appreciate that, Valerie. Welcome aboard! 01/28/2012 11:43
Ah, something to drink my grog by. And a free story to snicker at: moving in more honest circles: Ha! Chila 01/30/2012 17:49
Welcome, Lelia! 01/29/2012 17:13
Hi, I just caught site of your sails in the distance and am very interested in finding out more. When is your next launch, I don't want to miss the boat. I have a lot to learn about sailing and the deep blue sea...and I believe I've found the Captain of the right boat to teach me. 01/29/2012 17:34
Hi.....I just thought I'd let you know, when I was surfing and caught site of your sails, I critiqued your sail to be sure I wanted to come aboard and examine the wind conditions blowing your genre sails in the right direction. I forgot to add all that in my first comment. Chila 01/30/2012 17:49
I'll be sure you get added to the subscription list, Barb, and thanks! Debbie Wilson 01/31/2012 10:35
Hi Teric, I appreciated your article on Christian fiction. I don't know whether I'd fit into the edgy camp, but I deal with issues such as persecution and sex trafficking in my writing. Sometimes when we try to paint the world as all coming out right by the end of the story, we drive some readers away because we lack realism. Thanks for your admonitions on the issue. 01/31/2012 11:57

Ruth: Great article. Love your writing style. i'm anxious to see more! Ruth M. 02/03/2012 19:01
Hey, thanks for taking the time to stop by! I'm relieved you approve :) I'll be sure to keep you updated each quarter when the new issues drop... and with other developments, of course. Thanks again. I really appreciate it! 02/20/2012 14:33
Thanks, Tim, for this comment and the one below. Got you entered, but only once. :) Tim Akers 02/20/2012 11:26
